A fire that looks fine isn't always fine. And a fire that works fine isn't always legal. Whether something's wrong, something's changed hands, or someone in a council office needs a paper trail before they'll sign anything — you need a report written by someone who knows exactly what they're talking about.
The Fire Shop produces three types of fire inspection reports across Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty. Each one is written clearly, meets the requirements of whoever's asking for it, and is produced by a qualified technician who's actually been inside enough fireboxes to know what normal looks like.

When Something Isn't Right
Smoking back. Poor draw. A fire that lights but won't hold. These things don't fix themselves, and guessing gets expensive fast. A service report starts with a proper inspection — firebox, flue, seals, air controls, combustion performance — and ends with a written document that tells you exactly what we found and what needs to happen next.
It's useful for insurance claims where you need documented evidence of a fault. It's useful for landlords who need written confirmation a fire is safe for tenants. And it's useful if you just want to stop wondering what's going on and get a straight answer on paper.

Compliance
The Document That Gets Council Across the Line
Building consent for a fireplace installation isn't just ticking a box — council wants to see that flue clearances are correct, combustible distances are met, the hearth is built to code, and the product itself is certified. Get any of that wrong in the paperwork and the application bounces. Get it wrong in the installation and the CCC doesn't come.
We produce compliance reports that cover all of it — written for Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty District Council, structured to answer the questions they're going to ask before they ask them. New installations, retrospective consents, pre-sale verification, rental property compliance — if council or a conveyancing solicitor needs something in writing, this is what you need.

Know What You're Actually Buying
The Trade Me listing says "good condition." That means nothing without someone opening the door and actually looking inside. Before a second-hand fire gets reinstalled anywhere, it needs to be assessed — firebox integrity, baffle condition, door seals, glass, flue components, the lot.
We carry out second-hand fire assessments guided by the New Zealand Home Heating Association (NZHHA) framework. The report tells you whether the unit is safe and fit for reinstallation, what needs to be replaced before it goes in, or — if it's not worth reinstating — exactly why.
Buying blind is a liability. This report removes the guesswork before the reinstall, not after.
