Parts & Maintenance

Keep It Running. Keep It Safe. — Fireplace Parts & Maintenance, Bay of Plenty

A well-built fire can last decades. But decades of combustion cycles, thermal expansion, and heavy use take a toll — on glass, on seals, on baffles, on every component that keeps the thing burning the way it should. When something wears out, the right part fitted by someone who knows the system is the difference between a quick fix and an expensive problem.

The Fire Shop supplies parts, carries out scheduled maintenance, and handles bird-proofing across Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty. If your fire needs attention, we can usually sort it.

Parts Supply

We Know Where to Find Them

For fires manufactured from 2000 onwards, we can source most replacement components directly — fire glass, baffle plates, vermiculite bricks, door rope and gasket seals, air wash controls, log grates, flue collars, damper components, and ignition or thermocouple parts for gas fires. We work directly with NZ's main distributors and manufacturers, so you're not waiting weeks for something that should be straightforward.

For fires built before 2000, it gets more complicated. Original parts are often discontinued, and standard channels come up empty. In most cases we have third-party custom solutions — fabricated or adapted components that restore function without scrapping the whole unit. We'll assess the fire, tell you honestly what's possible, and give you a realistic picture of cost versus replacement value. If a part genuinely can't be sourced or fabricated at a price that makes sense, we'll tell you that too.

Scheduled Maintenance

The Visit That Earns Its Keep

The fires that cause problems are usually the ones that haven't been looked at in years. An annual maintenance visit catches the small things before they become expensive things — and keeps your fire running at the efficiency it was designed for.

A standard visit covers the combustion chamber inspection and clean, baffle and brick condition, glass seal and door seal check, flue and flue connection inspection, air control and damper function, and a safety clearance visual. If anything's borderline, we flag it. If anything needs to be dealt with before next season, we tell you now rather than when it's -3° and your fire won't perform.

Maintenance is available for wood fires, gas fires, and pellet fires throughout Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty.

Bird-Proofing

Because One Nest Can Ruin Your Winter

Birds don't mean any harm. They're just looking for somewhere warm and sheltered to nest — and an unprotected chimney is exactly that. The problem is a nest in your flue is a blockage, and a blockage means carbon monoxide has nowhere to go except back into your home. It's one of the most common and most preventable hazards we deal with.

We install quality bird guards and cowls matched to your flue type and diameter — keeping birds, debris, and weather out while leaving draft unaffected. If there's already a nest in there, we clear it first. If the season's been and gone and you've noticed poor draw, unusual smells, or sounds from the chimney during the warmer months, don't assume it'll sort itself out.

Bird-proofing is available as a standalone service or added to any maintenance visit or sweep.
