Our History

Over 30 years of Bay of Plenty fires

The Fire Shop was established more than 30 years ago by John Young, who opened the original store on Birch Avenue in Tauranga. It quickly became a trusted local name for quality fires and honest advice — a reputation that has stuck ever since.

As the business grew, the showroom moved out to Te Puna, continuing to look after homeowners right across the Bay of Plenty.

In 2018, Troy Sleep took over The Fire Shop, merging it with his own chimney sweeping and installation business, Sweep Kings. That brought fireplace sales, expert installation and ongoing servicing together under one roof — the complete, family-run Fire Shop you will find today.

For more than 30 years, The Fire Shop has helped Bay of Plenty homeowners choose, install and look after the right fire for their home — over 1,200 installations and counting. We handle the whole job under one roof: helping you pick the right fireplace in our Tauriko showroom, managing the building consent, installing it properly, and keeping it running safely with annual chimney sweeps and servicing.

We're proud members of the New Zealand Home Heating Association (NZHHA), and we keep things moving — usually a site visit the same week and a written quote within a couple of days. No call centres, no guesswork, just straight answers from people who fit fires for a living.
